(Amesbury MA) The Newburyport Clippers had a big day at Woodsom Farm taking the Cape Ann League cross country titles in the boys and girls division.

Led by Sam Acquaviva and John Lucey, the Clippers added the CAL championship to their undefeated regular season.

After dropping the first set to a scrappy Newburyport team, the Generals took three in a row in a highly competitive match, winning 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-23.

Junior Evelyn Easdon had 5 aces and 9 kills for the 10-5 Generals, with freshman Mia Flynn adding 8 kills and 26 digs. Junior setter Remi Manning had 16 assists and 3 kills of her own. Senior defensive specialist Vanessa Brown had 11 digs and served at 100% while senior libero Tori Belise had 28 digs.

North Reading Edges Hamilton-Wenham

Juliette Nadeau scored twice for North Reading as the Hornets defeated Hamilton-Wenham 2-1 on the road today. Jerlin Kaithamattam assisted on both goals, and Alyssa Crugnale made 11 saves in goal for North Reading.

The win moves the 4-2-1 Hornets into a tie for second place with Newburyport in the Kinney division.

Swampscott moved to 6-1 today with a 5-3 win over Austin Prep. The bulk of the scoring came from Haley Bernhardt, who scored four times for the Big Blue. Mackenzie Kearney netted the final goal for Swampscott.


Grace DiGrande played a very cerebral game at midfield. Her positive touches on the ball and quick transition play put the Big Blue in excellent positions to score.

Beverly defeated Saugus today in three sets, 25-9, 25-10 & 25-17. Sophomore Ella Spiedel made her varsity debut and had five kills for the Panthers. Senior captain Maddy Cassidy had seven aces on serve and senior captain Sydney Wiley had 5.  

The victory pushes Beverly over .500 with a 5-4 record, and the Panthers will look to win two in a row on Friday when they host Winthrop. Saugus is off until next Tuesday, when they will host Somerville in a special Breast... Read More
